Wildlife in Murchison Falls

Wildlife Information

There are hundreds of wildlife in Murchison falls national park. This safari park is home to four of the big five and it is only the rhino that is absent but can also be seen if you add a stopover at Ziwa rhino sanctuary – the only place you can see rhinos in Uganda.

Elephants, Buffalos and Giraffes are a common sight in the park and you can be sure of seeing them on your visit to Murchison falls.

There are abundant numbers of hippopotamus and always seen during a boat cruise on the Victoria Nile going up to the bottom of the falls.

There are healthy prides of lions in this park but lions are regarded as occasional which means it is not guaranteed that you will see them. Hyenas do exist as well but not seen as often.
Leopards are also present but rare because of their nature.

Chimpanzee tracking in Murchison falls national park is done in Budongo forest and Kaniyo Pabid.
There are many other small game but the ones mentioned above significantly make up the park’s populations and they are the ones many visitors look forward to seeing while on a Uganda safari visiting Murchison falls national park.
